At Southgate at Shrewsbury, we believe that you’re always growing, learning, and evolving. With age and wisdom comes the ability to form new, long-lasting friendships and connections with the people around you.
Southgate promotes social connection within our community by offering a variety of amenities and events to bring people together. These include theatre and music events, sporting events, lectures, and more.
Why is social connection in retirement so important?
Before we share the specific ways that Southgate promotes social connection, it’s important to establish why it’s so important in the first place:
- Health benefits – According to Senior Health Care Solutions, seniors who are routinely social reap the health benefits. These benefits may include improved mental health, better physical health, and overall enhanced quality of life.
- Opportunities for personal growth – When you make new friends and meet new people, you challenge yourself in ways you’ve never done before. Maybe you choose to take a class with a new friend to learn a skill you haven’t yet mastered, or you go somewhere alone for the first time and introduce yourself to new faces. Whatever you decide to do, there are many opportunities to grow as a person and expand your ideas, beliefs, skills, and friend circle.
- Sense of community – When you connect with others, you have the ability to find a community, and with it, a sense of belonging and purpose. At Southgate at Shrewsbury, we want everyone to feel like they belong and have a community of other people you feel like you can trust and spend quality time with.
