Last week, Southgate welcomed Julie Anne Collier, Jim Parks, and their feathered friends from Wingmasters to our Southgate Theater. Residents enjoyed a live ‘Birds of Prey’ presentation featuring an American Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, Red-Tailed Hawk, Screech Owl, Barn Owl, and Great Horned Owl. Julie Ann and Jim are licensed raptor rehabilitators based in Massachusetts who are dedicated to increasing public understanding and appreciation of North American birds of prey. Together, they care for injured birds, most of which are rehabilitated and released back into the wild.
In some cases, birds are left permanently handicapped, but both Julie Ann and Jim are licensed to provide homes for these non-releasable raptors and are able to use them for their educational programs.
Currently, the Wingmasters have six educational programs available focusing on various birds of prey. As a travel-based partnership, they come to you. Since 1994, Wingmasters has presented over 5,000 programs.
We’re so happy to have had the opportunity to have them share their knowledge and expertise of these beautiful birds with us and our residents. Check our calendar of events regularly for more exciting resident events at Southgate!
