One of the best parts about being a resident at Southgate at Shrewsbury is our central Massachusetts location, especially during the beautiful, changing seasons. At this time of year, we’re reminded of the serenity and colors of the great outdoors and the special Autumn activities we look forward to each year.
As you gear ahead for the fall season, keep in mind these five things to look forward to:
1. Fall Foilage
One of the most beautiful parts of autumn is witnessing the leaves change colors. What once was green turns into wonderful colors of red, orange, and yellow as the leaves fall to the ground. In Central Massachusetts, the fall foliage is always on full display, especially near areas with more land and trees.
Take a nice long walk this season and witness as the colors of the leaves change each and every day. It’s a nice reminder that there is something special outdoors every time of year as well as the beauty in simplicity.
2. Creating Fall Arts & Crafts
Looking to decorate for fall? Why not make your own lovely decor? Try painting pumpkins instead of carving them for a more low-maintenance activity, or create art out of leaves you’ve collected outside on your walks. Whatever you decide to do, do it with friends to create long-lasting memories.
Southgate offers many wonderful amenities to our residents and their guests, including our Arts and Crafts Studio! Head over there to take a class and learn something new with your fellow residents.
3. Apple Picking
Apple picking begins in August in Central Massachusetts and typically lasts until November. Heading out to a local orchard is a great way to get out and experience the fall season, and picking your own apples is just as rewarding as it is fun!
Other fruits and vegetables that are in season include pumpkins and pears.
4. Local Festivals and Community Events
Autumn is the perfect season for areas to have their annual fall festivals, corn mazes, and haunted attractions. If you love seasonal treats and beverages, take a day trip to a cider mill for some apple cider and delicious donuts. If your grandchildren are coming to visit, consider taking them to a local Harvest Festival or country fair. You can find local events that are family-friendly at https://worcestercentralkidscalendar.com/central-ma-fall-fairs-festivals/.
Be sure to check Southgate’s Calendar of Events on the homepage to see which performers and trips we have planned for the Autumn months.
5. Enjoying Delicious Meals & Desserts
Whether you’re an avid cook or a beginner, fall is a great time to put your kitchen skills to the test. Try your hand at making chili or soup for the days when the air is a little bit crisp, or attempt a new casserole that you and your loved ones will love. If you picked apples at a local orchard, try baking them into treats like pie, brownies, or cake! Autumn is a great opportunity to refine your pie-baking technique, so try a new pumpkin or cherry pie recipe ahead of the holiday season.
At Southgate at Shrewsbury, we hope you’re geared up and ready for the changing seasons ahead of us! We encourage you to take advantage of all that Central Massachusetts has to offer you during the Autumn months. We also invite you to use Southgate’s cozy amenities, such as our library with a fireplace or our Arts and Crafts Studio.
