From September 28 to October 8, 2017, over 100,000 film lovers in over 250 cities across six continents will gather in Cinemas, Museums, and Universities for one purpose…to view and vote on the Finalists’ Films in the 19th Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival and Southgate is among the lucky venues! Preservation Worcester will present the Festival in our theatre beginning at 1:00 pm. ALL Southgate residents are invited!

Women’s Circle - Rep. Hannah Kane presents, "The Opioid Epi- demic and Recreational Marijuana".
State Rep- resentative Hannah Kane, will provide a com- prehensive overview of two of Massachusetts’ leading public health challenges and concerns, the opioid epidemic and the recent legalization of recreational marijuana. As a member of the MA Opioid Task Force and the Shrewsbury Coalition for Addiction Prevention Education, Rep. Kane will discuss the local and regional initiatives and organizations and the state-wide legislation that have been offered to tackle this crisis. She will also share insight into the ballot initiative fight to legalize recreational marijuana, the Commonwealth’s revisions to the marijuana law, and the impact this industry will have on municipalities, our communities and residents, and children’s public health and safety.

Classic String Duo
The music of Mozart’s era is similar to the Classic String Trio, but it was written specifically for just two instruments. The duo plays Renaissance dances and music from the nineteenth century but also alternates sets with folk, jazz and even rag- time for variety. Violinist Sheila Reid is a member of the Worcester Symphony Orchestra, Thayer Symphony and the Milford Symphony Orchestra and has performed at prestigious venues both nationally and internationally. Cellist Mary Carfagna, was a principal cellist with Boston Civic Symphony and the Lexington Sinfonietta. She currently per- forms with Boston Lyric Opera and Thayer Sym- phony.

W.I.S.E. Program “Five Pivotal Moments in US History”
In this course, we’ll focus on five moments in his- tory including: Women’s Suffrage; the 1876 Centennial; the Chinese Exclusion Act; the Wilming- ton coup and massacre; the Bonus Army March; and the American Indian Movement and Native American Rights. This course is taught by Benjamin Railton – a Professor of English and American Studies at Fitchburg State University. ALL WISE classes held at the Southgate site are free of charge to Southgate Residents.
