Women’s Circle Breakfast
The Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Clark University is the first and only institute of its kind. It is home to a uniquely rich undergraduate program and a landmark doctoral program. Since it was established in 1998, it has gained international standing as the sole program to train students for Ph.D. degrees in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Our speaker for our December 13 Women’s Circle Breakfast is Dr. Rebecca Carter-Chand, Visiting Assistant Professor at the Strassler Center for the 2017-18 academic year. Her topic is “Christianity on the Margins: Minority Churches in Nazi Germany.” The rise of Nazism in Germany raised profound ethical questions for people of all faiths. The vast majority of Germans belonged to either the main Protestant Church or the Roman Catholic Church. Less than 1 percent was Jewish, and around the same number of people belonged to an array of other Christian denominations and sects. This talk will explore these minority churches and how they responded to the rise of Hitler and how they adjusted to life under National Socialism.
