Over his four-decade career, Mercer collaborated with many great composers including: Arlen, Carmichael, and Mancini. Capture just some of Johnny’s ‘marvelous’ words, enjoy Academy Award winners like ‘On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe’ and ‘Moon River’, and sing other ‘top 10’ hits including ‘Jeepers Creepers’, ‘Fools Rush In’ and ‘Dream’.

Women’s Circle
“Age of McCarthyism: The Second Red Scare” is the topic for our June 14 Women’s Circle Breakfast, and our speaker is Southgate resident, John McClymer. Senator Joseph McCarthy lent his name to the Second Red Scare, but his subcommittee’s highly publicized hunt for “Reds” was only a small part of the story. In his talk, John McClymer explores the Red Scare’s impact on popular culture. John McClymer is Professor of History and has taught at Assumption College since 1970. He is the author of seven books–most recently “The Birth of Modern America–1914-1945,” the “AHA Guide to Teaching and Learning With New Media,” and scores of articles and book chapters, several of which deal with teaching and using the internet. He is the recipient of numerous fellowships and grants.

“The Pirates of Penzance”
Southgate hosts Greater Worcester Opera’s production of “The Pirates of Penzance” Greater Worcester Opera is a regional opera company based in Central Massachusetts. A notfor-profit organization, GWO produces mainstage opera, concerts, touring opera for students, and a variety of other musical events utilizing the talents of the area’s finest professionally trained singers and musicians. Southgate is pleased to host this fully staged concert version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s rollicking tale of pirates, constables, wards and generals… costumed and dramatically performed, sung by GWO’s fabulous artists! This event is open to the public. Southgate residents are admitted free of charge however must register for admission in the program book BY June 12th.
