Women’s Circle
“Age of McCarthyism: The Second Red Scare” is the topic for our June 14 Women’s Circle Breakfast, and our speaker is Southgate resident, John McClymer. Senator Joseph McCarthy lent his name to the Second Red Scare, but his subcommittee’s highly publicized hunt for “Reds” was only a small part of the story. In his talk, John McClymer explores the Red Scare’s impact on popular culture. John McClymer is Professor of History and has taught at Assumption College since 1970. He is the author of seven books–most recently “The Birth of Modern America–1914-1945,” the “AHA Guide to Teaching and Learning With New Media,” and scores of articles and book chapters, several of which deal with teaching and using the internet. He is the recipient of numerous fellowships and grants.
