Southgate Art Gallery Exhibit Opening & Reception
Southgate welcomes the artistry of Photographer Betsy Moyer! Betsy lives by the Sudbury River in Concord, Massachusetts, and the river and its wildlife have been an inspiration since she began to photograph seriously in 1994. She has completed a book Paul Green’s Plant Book: An Alphabet of Flowers and Folklore, that combines text written by her father Paul Green, noted North Carolina playwright (Pulitzer Prize winning author of The Lost Colony) and an amateur botanist, with photographs illustrating words in the text. She is a founding member of the Sudbury Valley Nature Photographers. To accompany the festivities this afternoon, we feature a long time Southgate favorite, Betsy’s son, Fred Moyer and his Jazz Arts Trio! Blending his classical training with his passion for jazz, Fred and friends will offer selections that Fred himself transcribed from recordings of the great jazz pianists. Just as Fred plays the works of Beethoven, Chopin and many others in classical concerts-note-for-note-he will perform the work of Guaraldi, Peterson and others infusing each transcribed composition with his own artistic sensitivity. The performance will begin at 2:00 pm.
