Women's Circle Breakfast
Our speaker this morning is James Welu, Director Emeritus of the Worcester Art Museum. The title of his presentation is “Lady Warwick: From an English Castle to an American Museum.” Considered one of the great beauties of the Edwardian era, Frances “Daisy” Greville, Countess of Warwick, lived a charmed and controversial life. Both a socialite and socialist, this celebrated wife, mother, and mistress had all the right connections, including a nine-year affair with the Prince of Wales. This lecture recounts the colorful story of Lady Warwick’s portrait of her and her son, Maynard, painted by John Singer Sargent. Learn how this larger-than-life likeness of the indomitable countess left Warwick Castle less than a decade after it was painted to become one of the Worcester Art Museum’s most dramatic acquisitions. All are welcome to the presentation.
