Wendee Glick Jazz Vocalist
Welcome back this charismatic jazz singer with a roaring voice! Based in the New England area, Glick grew to love jazz from her mother’s career as a singer. She was soon studying music at the Univ. of Lowell and growing a fondness for jazz legends like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. She is a fixture in several New England jazz clubs.

Men's Breakfast
“Did the New Tax Law Affect You?” Men’s Breakfast welcomes, Attorney Arthur Bergeron who will be joining us to talk about the recent major changes in the deferral tax Code. Do the new bracket limits affect you? How about the new standard deduction? Should you be “stacking” your gifts? Attorney Bergeron, who has been practicing for 41 years and focuses on elder law issue, is of-counsel at Mirick O’Connell, a multi-specialty firm with 70 lawyers. All are welcome to for the presentation at approx. 9:30 am.

“Why the Cold War Wasn’t so Hot” with instructor Jed Watters. This course will examine the political and public assumptions that sustained the Cold War from Truman to Reagan and from Stalin to Gorbachev. Topics will include world views; the Khrushchev dilemma; McCarthy to MAD; the strange flight of Barnhadt Rust; and what did we get for our ten trillion? Jed Watters was a history professor at Assumption and WPI for more than 30 years.

WISE Program II “World War I”
“World War I” with instructor Dr. John Ferriss. A centennial look at the enormously destructive war in Europe with an emphasis on the American involvement. A review of how the conflict dramatically changed the political and territorial landscape of Europe. Topics will include The Western Front, Americathe reluctant ally, Kaiserschlact- Germany’s last offensive, the American home front, and the Treaty of Versailles. Dr. Ferriss is retired from the Univ. of Mass. Medical School. In retirement, he completed an MA degree in Military History from Norwich University. Open to the public. Southgate residents may attend class free of charge.
